Walmart & Google Launch AI-Powered Shopping via Gemini to Transform Retail Experience

Walmart Inc. and Google have unveiled a strategic collaboration to integrate the intelligence of Google’s Gemini AI with Walmart and Sam’s Club’s extensive product assortment, value and delivery capabilities, aiming to make product discovery and shopping more intuitive and seamless for customers. Through the new experience built by Walmart and accessible directly within Gemini using the Universal Commerce Protocol Gemini will automatically include relevant Walmart and Sam’s Club items in product suggestions during AI conversations, helping users find “great items, at great prices” from both in-store and online inventories and offering more opportunities to show relevant products as users interact with the AI. When customers link their Walmart accounts, the experience becomes personalized and familiar: Walmart can recommend complementary products based on past online and in-store purchases, integrate with items in their existing Walmart or Sam’s Club carts, and extend benefits tied to Walmart+ and Sam’s Club memberships, while also enabling fast delivery with locally curated products arriving in under three hours and as quickly as 30 minutes. “The transition from traditional web or app search to agent-led commerce represents the next great evolution in retail. We aren’t just watching the shift, we are driving it,” said John Furner, President and CEO of Walmart U.S. and incoming President and CEO of Walmart Inc., adding that the partnership with Google brings Walmart’s shopping experience directly into Gemini to create more intuitive and personal shopping journeys for customers. “AI can improve every step of the consumer journey, from discovery to delivery. Walmart is an innovator in retail and we are excited to partner with them on a new open standard to make agentic commerce a reality. Customers will soon be able to experience everything they love about Walmart directly in the Gemini app,” said Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, underscoring the potential for conversational AI to reshape how people shop online and beyond.
