Siemens Launches AI Agents for Industrial Automation

Siemens

Future vision: ecosystem of Industrial AI agents available on the Siemens Xcelerator platform with both Siemens and third-party AI agents

Siemens has announced a major enhancement to its industrial AI solutions by introducing advanced AI agents designed to integrate seamlessly into the existing Industrial Copilot ecosystem. This innovation marks a pivotal shift from traditional AI assistants that merely respond to queries to fully autonomous agents capable of executing complete processes independently.

The new AI agent architecture from Siemens is driven by a sophisticated orchestrator that intelligently manages a suite of specialized agents. Similar to a skilled craftsman utilizing a versatile toolkit, these agents collaboratively tackle complex tasks across the entire industrial value chain. Operating autonomously, they understand intent, learn continuously to improve performance, and access both external tools and other agents when needed. Importantly, users maintain full control by choosing which tasks to delegate to these intelligent agents.

“With our Industrial AI agents, we’re moving beyond the question-answer paradigm to create systems that can independently execute complete industrial workflows,” said Rainer Brehm, CEO of Factory Automation at Siemens Digital Industries. “By automating automation itself, we envision productivity increases of up to 50% for our customers – fundamentally changing what’s possible in industrial operations.”

Revolutionizing Automation with Siemens’ AI Agent Architecture

Siemens’ innovative approach distinctly separates Industrial Copilots, which users interact with, from the AI agents that function behind the scenes. The company is also developing digital agents while integrating physical agents, such as mobile robots, to create a holistic multi-AI-agent system where highly connected agents collaborate efficiently.

What truly sets Siemens’ approach apart is the orchestrated integration of these agents within a comprehensive ecosystem. These AI agents not only work cohesively with other Siemens agents but also demonstrate unmatched interoperability with third-party agents.

To further promote adoption and innovation, Siemens plans to establish an industrial AI agent marketplace hub on the Siemens Xcelerator Marketplace. This platform will give customers access to AI agents developed by both Siemens and third parties, fostering a vibrant ecosystem of industrial AI solutions.

The Comprehensive Siemens Industrial Copilot Ecosystem

The enhanced Siemens Industrial Copilot, powered by industrial AI agents, addresses every phase of the industrial value chain, from design to operations in both process and discrete industries:

In the process industries, the P&ID Digitalization Copilot has been successfully tested by several clients. It offers a cloud-based P&ID detection service to modernize and consolidate legacy diagrams.

For process industries, the Simatic eaSie assistant offers technicians easy access to plant data through chat or voice, ensuring safer and more reliable operations both in the control room and on the field.

Bridging the Skills Gap in Manufacturing

The Siemens Industrial Copilot is already proving its value in Siemens’ own plants and client installations worldwide. At thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering, the technology has enhanced code quality and development speed. Similarly, at Siemens’ Bad Neustadt facility, the Insights Hub Production Copilot has revolutionized manufacturing by converting dispersed data into actionable insights.

“In a factory environment, our Industrial AI agents connect different copilots and automate workflows across the entire value chain. This creates a unified approach that makes industrial AI accessible to everyone, regardless of their technical background or experience level,” said Brehm. “We envision a future where Industrial AI agents work seamlessly alongside human workers, handling routine processes independently while enabling humans to focus on innovation, creativity, and complex problem-solving.”

By integrating advanced autonomous AI agents, Siemens is setting a new standard for industrial automation, making it more efficient, connected, and accessible.
