Led by Aravind Srinivas, Perplexity made headlines in August with a $34.5 billion unsolicited all-cash bid to acquire Alphabet’s Chrome browser an offer that significantly exceeded the company’s own valuation.
The Nvidia-backed firm is behind Comet, an AI-powered browser capable of performing tasks on behalf of users. Acquiring Chrome would have granted Perplexity access to the browser’s more than three billion users, potentially positioning it to compete more effectively with larger rivals, including OpenAI, which is developing its own AI browser.
