This strategic acquisition marks an important milestone in furthering Proofpoint’s mission to deliver people-centric security solutions to businesses of all sizes around the world.
Proofpoint, Inc., a leading provider of cybersecurity and compliance solutions, announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Hornetsecurity Group, a top European provider of AI-driven security, compliance, data protection, and security awareness services for Microsoft 365 (M365).
This strategic acquisition strengthens Proofpoint’s ability to deliver people-centric cybersecurity solutions tailored for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) via managed service providers (MSPs). By uniting Proofpoint’s global cybersecurity expertise with Hornetsecurity’s leadership in the MSP ecosystem, the two organizations aim to enhance protection for businesses of all sizes and the people behind them.
Hornetsecurity brings to the table a high-growth business with over $160 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR), more than 20% year-over-year growth, and a performance level that exceeds the “Rule of 60”—a strong indicator of scalability and market momentum.
Serving over 125,000 SMBs and supported by more than 12,000 channel partners and MSPs across Europe, Hornetsecurity complements Proofpoint’s expansive footprint, which includes partnerships with 85% of the Fortune 100 and over half of the Fortune 1000. Together, the two companies will provide a robust portfolio of complementary cybersecurity solutions, leveraging shared threat intelligence to offer a new benchmark in human-centric protection.
“As attackers become more sophisticated and people remain their primary target, organizations need security that protects them wherever they work—across email, cloud applications, and all digital channels,” said Sumit Dhawan, CEO of Proofpoint. “We are excited to add Hornetsecurity and expand our industry-leading, people-centric security platform to better meet the unique needs of managed service providers and SMBs. We look forward to increasing our investment in European markets as part of our global growth strategy.”

Microsoft 365 continues to be a foundational platform for business operations—and a primary target for cyber threats. Proofpoint’s recent deepened collaboration with Microsoft enhances innovation scalability and supports their shared goal: to help customers proactively detect and mitigate threats targeting their employees and data.
Hornetsecurity’s flagship solution, 365 Total Protection, is recognized as one of the most comprehensive cloud security offerings for M365. This all-in-one platform enables MSPs to deliver integrated services across email security, data backup, security awareness training, access control, and domain fraud protection. The Hornetsecurity team remains committed to product innovation, continuing to enhance its platform to support evolving cybersecurity challenges.
Through the integration of Proofpoint’s global intelligence network and Hornetsecurity’s AI-driven technologies, customers and partners across both companies will gain stronger threat detection and response capabilities. This combined strength will help organizations stay ahead of increasingly complex cyberattacks.
Upon deal completion, Proofpoint plans to extend Hornetsecurity’s MSP-focused solutions to a broader international audience. Hornetsecurity will act as the central platform within Proofpoint’s portfolio for serving MSPs and SMBs, driving consistent service delivery, accelerated product development, and a unified customer experience.
Daniel Hofmann will remain CEO of Hornetsecurity and continue to lead the company’s strategic growth. The current leadership team will stay in place, advancing the company’s vision and proven product roadmap while accelerating innovation in the global cybersecurity landscape.
